🌊 A Day at the Beach: A Psychedelic Perspective

Psychedelic work can feel vast and mysterious, just like the ocean. At Ahavah Gardens and Moon Boots, we guide people toward responsible, sacred plant medicine use. One of the most relatable metaphors for this journey is a simple day at the beach.

Here’s how planning for a beach day can help us understand safe, intentional psychedelic use.

1. 🏖 Choose the Right Beach (Choose the Right Medicine)

Not all beaches are created equal. Some are calm and gentle, while others are wild and untamed. The same is true for psychedelics.

Psilocybin might feel like a warm, sandy beach, forgiving and expansive. Ayahuasca, on the other hand, is more like a rocky coastline, intense, transformational, and potentially dangerous without guidance.

Just like you wouldn’t send a child into rough surf, you shouldn’t approach powerful plant medicines casually. Some experiences require lifeguards, trained facilitators who hold space, offer safety, and help you navigate. Choose your medicine with care. Choose your setting with intention.

2. 🌦 Check the Weather (Check Your Mental and Emotional State)

Would you go to the beach in a thunderstorm?

Before engaging with any medicine, check your internal weather. Are you grounded? Are you in a place of grief, anxiety, or confusion? If so, it might not be the right time to journey.

Psychedelics amplify what’s already within. Giving yourself time to clear emotional debris can mean the difference between a healing experience and an overwhelming one.

3. 🎒 Pack Your Bag (Prepare Your Body and Spirit)

A good beach trip requires essentials: sunscreen, snacks, water, and shade. The same principle applies to psychedelics.

Prepare your body by eating clean, hydrating, and resting. Prepare your space with sacred items, music, or ritual. Set your intention and center yourself. This is your spiritual sunscreen. It protects you energetically and mentally.

Respect the process. Respect the medicine.

4. 🩱 Dip Your Toes or Dive In (Understand Your Dose)

When you get to the water, do you dive in headfirst or test the temperature first?

With psychedelics, it’s wise to start slow. Don’t leap into high doses without experience. Let yourself adjust. Learn your relationship with the medicine over time.

The ocean will always be there. So will the medicine. There’s no rush.

5. 🐠 Snorkel with an Open Mind (Hold Your Intentions Gently)

You came to see a starfish, but the ocean gave you a sea turtle instead.

Set intentions, but don’t cling to them. The more you grasp, the more you miss. Psychedelic journeys are not linear. They unfold in their own way, on their own time.

Let go of expectation and trust the process. Sometimes, what you need to see is even better than what you wanted to see.

6. 🌬 Come Up for Air (Integration Is Everything)

You’ve explored the depths. Now it’s time to breathe and dry off.

Integration is where transformation happens. Journal your insights. Share with a trusted friend. Let the lessons soak in like sunlight on your skin.

You don’t live underwater, and you don’t live in ceremony. Integration brings the magic home. It turns the trip into lasting change.

7. 🫂 Share the Beach (Build Community)

The beach is more beautiful when shared.

At Moon Boots and Ahavah Gardens, we value community. Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. We walk this path together, supporting, learning, and celebrating each other's growth.

Find your circle. Hold space for others. Share your stories and your seashells.

🌊 Final Reflection

So the next time you consider working with psychedelics, ask yourself:

  • What kind of beach am I choosing?

  • What’s my inner weather like?

  • Am I truly prepared?

  • Am I ready to enter with reverence?

This journey is about more than substances. It is about sacredness, awareness, and connection to yourself, the Earth, and the mystery of it all.

May your beach days be safe, beautiful, and full of wonder, even if you don’t find the starfish.

With love,
Benny

My journey with psychedelics began when I was a young man with LSD, which opened my eyes to a world of magic and deeper understanding. Over the years, I explored various psychedelics and studied the works of pioneers like Terrence McKenna and Tim Leary as well as the teachings of Ram Das and Alan Watts. I have also faced personal challenges with substance dependencies. After a period of sobriety and self-improvement through yoga and mindfulness, I reintroduced psychedelics with intention, starting with psilocybin to address deeper traumas. The legalization of these substances in Colorado further empowered my exploration, including my safe extraction of DMT after extensive research. Now, I am dedicated to helping others navigate and integrate their psychedelic experiences, ensuring they do so safely and meaningfully.
